Ashcroft Technology Academy

First Impressions

Celia – Head Student

I did not have to deliberate for long to decide that Ashcroft was my first choice for Sixth Form. I was fully aware that ATA could match my ambition and help me to harness the academic potential I knew I was capable of. It has done so, by offering a network of teacher and staff who are incredibly supportive and encouraging. All the help I could possibly ask for in preparing for my exams, applying for university, and choosing my future career has been provided for here, enabling me to create a strong foundation for my future.

Ashcroft offers you more than just academic support. In my time in Year 12, I have been able to take part in a plethora of activities beyond the curriculum. Not only can you join societies that target specific career paths, such as Medicine and Law, but you also have opportunities to get involved with house competitions and super-curricular activities, like inter-house Model United Nations and the Bar Mock Trial. Student run clubs also showcase the leadership and initiative developed by the Ashcroft Sixth Form, and demonstrating their authentic passion in their chosen subjects. The number of opportunities available to you here outside of the curriculum ensure no two students’ experiences are the same, and that your time here is always engaging and offering something to look forward to.

I chose to study English, Geography, and Politics for my A-Levels, as it was the combination which suited my desire to continue to develop a wide range of analytical and essay-writing skills. This means I to spend my time learning about a broad range of captivating topics, from plate tectonics to post-war Prime Ministers, and everything in between. As a result of the skills I have cultivated at Ashcroft, I am now in a position to apply to read Law at university, a competitive course I am excited to get stuck in to.

Matilda – Deputy Head Student

I moved to Ashcroft at the start of Year 12. Immediately, I was welcomed warmly by the friendly students and supportive teachers and felt part of the Academy. The transition to Sixth Form and a new school was a big step, however I was supported from the very first moment I entered the Academy. I am delighted with my decision to study the IB Programme at Ashcroft. The focus on academia in this ambitious environment has spurred me on to aim for a point score over 40. In particular, the small classes have encouraged me to be more proactive in lessons. They also mean I receive personalised feedback on my academic progress, encouraging me to always improve and grow.

The Ashcroft Sixth Form is not just about academics. Here, I have been encouraged to expand my interests and step out of my comfort zone, developing new skills. For instance, participating in events such as the Bar Mock Trail and MUN conferences have strengthened my public speaking abilities. Furthermore, helping to organise a food bank collection, as part of the CAS component of the IB diploma, has improved my organisational skills. This has massively improved my time management skills, which have allowed me to excel at my academics while continuing my various hobbies including writing and crochet.

In my opinion, the most valuable element of the Academy is its commitment to support students to prepare for life beyond Sixth Form. Students have access to universities, counsellors, and career guidance both in the UK and internationally. This means I feel confident in my application to study law at university. In addition, there is a constant range of invaluable super curricular opportunities for students to engage in, such as University Lectures and Law Society, encouraging me to be the confident, well-rounded person I am today.

Austin – Head Student Team

When I first joined the Sixth Form, I was immediately struck by the remarkable sense of community that is fostered at the Academy. The teachers here are truly dedicated to pushing their students to achieve their utmost potential, helping us to do our very best. Our journey towards success is supported by the exceptional Sixth Form team, who guide us throughout our academic endeavours and provide numerous opportunities to grow holistically as people beyond the classroom. This environment has played a pivotal role in shaping my academic path and aiding me in making informed decisions about what I aspire to study at university, a choice that is often challenging to make.

In addition to the exceptional academic support, the Sixth Form team goes above and beyond in assisting us through the demanding process of university applications. They are always more than happy to help along the journey, and any stress is eased through manageable deadlines and invaluable one-to-one guidance. Ashcroft is the doorstop that props every possible door open, offering opportunities, encouragement, and the confidence to step through them. Choosing Ashcroft Sixth Form has undoubtedly been the greatest decision I have made in my academic life, as it has not only propelled me toward personal growth and achievement but has also immersed me in a welcoming and diverse community.

The bonds formed within the Academy are built on friendship, respect, and a shared desire to excel. My experiences here have equipped me with the skills and mindset necessary to thrive in university and beyond.

Lamees – Head Student Team

Right from the start of my first week in the Sixth Form, it was clear that, by choosing Ashcroft, I had made the best possible choice for my education. I knew it would prepare me academically, personally, and professionally - for the future I am aiming for.

As you can imagine, it was a little nerve-racking entering a new environment when I joined the Academy at the start of Year 12. However, the Sixth Form allowed me to find my own stride, not just in terms of being a dedicated student but also as a young adult.

With the support I have been provided, I was able to instantly integrate into the Sixth Form and enjoy my studies. What really impressed me after joining the Sixth Form was the depth of the teachers' knowledge in their subject areas, and this too reassured me that I was learning from the best. Additionally, I love the balance of independence and support in this Sixth Form. Students have immense support from their teachers, yet we are also provided enough freedom to study independently and take ownership of our learning, for example, through study periods.

The structured and supportive atmosphere in the Sixth Form, as well as having clear expectations and strong teaching, aids you to stay motivated and on track. I knew this school will help me progress further to achieve the best possible grades in Year 13 and successfully pursue my long-term goals.

Nadia – Head Student Team

As someone who spent her entire secondary education at Ashcroft, choosing to continue into the Sixth Form was an easy decision. I had already experienced the high standards of teaching and, more importantly, the deeply supportive community that the academy fosters.

The Sixth Form environment at Ashcroft is both challenging and nurturing. The smaller class sizes enable me to form meaningful connections with teachers who are not only experts in their fields, but also genuinely committed to their students’ success. Their encouragement makes me feel seen, heard, and capable.

Beyond academics, Ashcroft provides a space where I feel constantly supported—whether through leadership opportunities, mentoring, or tailored guidance for university applications. The sense of community, both among students and staff, has helped me grow in confidence and resilience.

Ashcroft doesn’t just prepare me for exams, it prepares me for life. I know the strong sense of community here is shaping a future I’m excited about.

Samuele – Head Student Team

Upon my arrival on my first day of Sixth Form at Ashcroft, I was warmly welcomed by the diverse community of students and teachers. I was able to meet very nice people, as well as reconnect with previous friends, which boosted my confidence. I recognised once again that Ashcroft is a place where everyone is valued and respected, regardless of their background, and I am grateful to be part of such a welcoming environment.

Sixth Form life is vastly different to secondary school life; there is a greater workload as well as higher expectations. From the start, Ashcroft was extremely supportive with my studies and university plans, particularly as I hope to study Chemistry at university. I feel Ashcroft has provided me with useful resources and an insight into Chemistry through the Molecular Science Club they have organised and the extended access to the labs that we get throughout the year as part of our chemistry course.in addition to this, there is a great choice of extra curriculars in school and a wide range of super curriculars that are tailored to our specific subject choices. Ashcroft also provides a great house system that gives us students the opportunity to take part in competitions, for example: The Great Ashcroft Bake Off, inter-house basketball and dodgeball and the Ashcroft Quiz competition, all of which are open to all years, promoting inclusivity. And as I love competing, particularly in sports, I have found that all of these competitions organised by the academy are really helpful to take a break from the fast-paced life at the academy and enjoy life at the sixth-form.

Being a student as Ashcroft has increased my confidence academically and hugely and I know that at Ashcroft I can strive to do my absolute best.
